In the beginning of my 2nd yr as a Sales Rep I met the infamous Sid Abruzzi at the very first Waterbros Surf Shop at 1st Beach in Newport RI in the Summer of 1985. After we talked some biz, I was heading out the door and Sid invited me to stick around, that I might want to shoot a few of the Skaters that are showing up this afternoon to skate the “Vert Ramp”, it was every scary bit of 10′ of vert. Standing up there and looking down I would not have wanted to be the one sliding down that ramp or running it with no pads like Freddy Smith did. The Session was epic, it was 1985 and no one was really doing what these guys were doing on a vert ramp. Sid allowed me up on the roof of the Shop to shoot from that angle and it rocked. I needed a Ladder to get up there…coolest angle ever!
